Other Metal-Free Click Reactions Apart from the above-mentioned strategies, there are a few other metal-free click reactions—such as inverse electron demand Diels–Alder (IEDDA), 219 strain-promoted oxidation-controlled cycloadditions of ortho -quinones with cyclooctynes 220 or cyclopropenes, 221 and the amine-yne reaction 222 are also worth mentioning in the hydrogel preparation. There is an increasing trend of using these bio-orthogonal click chemistries for the development of complex hydrogel materials which provide dynamic, cell instructive microenvironments.
