The prominent spikes, with amplitudes of up to 21.05 mV, demonstrate the wide range of the urchin’s ability to produce bioelectric signals. The presence of closely spaced massive depolarizations ( Figure 2 c) resembles the burst firing of neurons in more complex nervous systems, indicating a possible method for amplifying signals or encoding highly significant information.
