7 Performing skin tests before DPT have been recommended especially for preparations containing dextran; however with the initiation of discussions regarding mechanisms such as CARPA, recent studies have indicated an increasing trend towards the administration of DPT without prior skin testing, particularly for iron preparations that do not contain dextran. 8 , 9 , 10 Given the rarity of hypersensitivity reactions, the ability of IV iron to activate complement is not the only factor that leads to hypersensitivity.
