Cx43 expression was found to be positively regulated at early stages of carcinogenesis [ 36 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 ], with a decreasing trend observed as tumor differentiation worsened (well: 54%, moderate: 30%, poor: 19%), supporting the notion that lower Cx43 levels are associated with more aggressive OSCC forms.
