There is also an overall trend of increased detection of TILAM in human liver tissue with progression of fibrosis (Supplemental Figure 1C, http://links.lww.com/HEP/I319 ), and detection in cirrhosis likely reflects a combination of an increase in TILAM expression in HSC myofibroblasts as well as their expansion with progression of disease, coupled with relatively low transcript levels in the whole liver, making the signal harder to detect at earlier stages of fibrosis.
