Main issue from the previous round of review: There is indeed a positive correlation between Braak stage severity and BG4 staining, but this correlation is relatively weak and borderline significant (R = 0.52, p value = 0.028).
Staining density measurements confirmed these findings and demonstrated a highly significant increase in BG4 staining in the oldest cases studied within the OML ( Figure 1d ) and the CA4 regions of cornu ammonis ( Figure 2—figure supplement 2a ), confirming increased intracellular BG4 accumulation as a function of age.
