Lastly, we observed a nonsignificant trend suggesting that female applicants were more likely to seek at least 1 LOR from a female writer; however, the low overall percentage of letters authored by women (11%) limited subgroup analysis and indicates that the differences in LOR content observed cannot be attributed solely to the gender distribution of letter writers.
