There was a borderline significant association between NOD2 risk variants and development of decompensation and/or jaundice during follow‐up [HR 2.65 (95% CI 0.98–7.17)]. 4 Discussion This study shows that patients with compensated cirrhosis and varices and NOD2 risk variants have an increased incidence of first decompensation compared to patients with compensated cirrhosis who do not carry these risk variants.
