Evaluation of the percentage of hyperkalemia cases over the GOLD stages showed similar percentage cases (3.6%-4.3%) among patients with low serum bicarbonate levels (<22 mmol/L), while an increasing trend, from 5.9% cases in GOLD 2 to 8.5% cases in GOLD 4, was observed among those with normal-high serum bicarbonate (≥22 mmol/L; Figure 5 , Supplementary Table 8 ).
