The silica content is highly significant in pozzolans used as an additive or partial replacement for cement in concrete, as the silica present in these ashes can react with the calcium hydroxide released during cement hydration, forming calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) [ 7 ], which are responsible for the mechanical properties of cement [ 1 , 8 ].
