In animal model studies, irisin has been shown to promote osteoblast differentiation, and inhibits osteoclast differentiation by activating the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway in MC3T3‐E1 osteoblast cells, indicating that irisin has a positive regulatory effect on bone metabolism and may be significant in preventing the development of osteoarthritis [ 129 ].
