Our results indicate that the number of germline-encoded microhomologous nucleotides between two sequences substantially influences both trimming (parameter = 0.4484) and ligation (parameter = 0.1272) outcomes, with both effects being highly significant ( P -values smaller than machine tolerance, p ≃ 0) (Fig. 3A ).
