Although gastroenteritis showed a decreasing trend in our findings, it still affects children throughout Brazil 26 , and reductions in these causes of hospitalizations indicate improvements in the health conditions of the population as a whole and demonstrate advances in PHC.

Among the groups of causes that showed an increasing trend, hospitalizations due to group 4 (nutritional deficiencies) stand out, as they showed constant growth in the period analyzed.
