The correlation between PlGF and serum creatinine was only borderline significant, and the magnitude of PlGF increase observed in patients with SRC far exceeds what is expected in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate < 30 ml/min per 1.73 m 2 ( Supplementary Figure S2 ). 40 The much clearer correlation between renin and PlGF suggests that renal ischemia induced by the endothelial lesions of scleroderma reflects what triggers PlGF synthesis, not clearance ( Supplementary Figure S3 ).
