Liver and kidney injury were monitored though different clinical markers: plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were also significantly reduced with phage or combination therapy, while aspartate aminotransferase (AST), urea, triglyceride and the level of total bilirubin showed only a small trend or remained unchanged (Fig. 3c ).
