The tumor AKR1B1 score was significantly higher in proximal tumors compared to distal tumors ( p : 0.046, Turkish cohort, Figure S9E ) and in mucinous tumors as compared to nonmucinous tumors with borderline significance ( p : 0.056, Serbian cohort, Figure S9F ), which may be due to the presence of mucinous tumors more often in the proximal colon [ 21 ].
