A notable trend is the engineering of mechanosensitive ion channels that can be expressed in specific neural populations, such as TRPV1 and GABAergic neurons, to lower the acoustic threshold for activation and reduce unintended stimulation of surrounding tissue ( Figure 6 a) [ 81 , 82 , 83 ].
