The first variant of interest, 3R:12573245T>C, is found only in five sampling locations, but is at a global frequency of almost 40%, and thus represents a highly significant outlier from the genome-wide joint distribution, the strength of which we can characterize with a z -score ( z = − 12.61 , see Spatial genome scan).
