8 In the Effectiveness of Intravenous Iron Treatment versus Standard Care in Patients with Heart Failure and Iron Deficiency (IRONMAN) trial ( NCT02642562 ), FDI in patients with LVEF ≤45% (hereafter referred to as HF), resulted in a borderline significant reduction in HF hospitalisations and cardiovascular (CV) deaths (statistically significant in the prespecified COVID-19 sensitivity analysis), as well as improvement in QoL at 4 months, compared with usual care (UC). 9 To aid shared decision-making, it is important to understand the efficacy and safety of FDI in patients with HFrEF in different age groups.
