Although evidence for general and prescribed opioid use in Brazil indicates an increasing trend, as made evident by independent population-based surveys, as well as the available official data on prescription, dispensation, and procurement of opioids, there are no studies that describe the profile of use and Defined Daily Dose (DDD) patterns or other similar indicators of opioids for hospitalized patients over time.
