With the increasing number of colonoscopies performed, there has also been an increasing trend in reports of rare complications, such as pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, appendicitis, small bowel perforation, septicemia, mesenteric tear, retroperitoneal abscess, and hemoperitoneum.
