81 However, the clinical significance of this finding remains unclear, as there was only a nonsignificant trend toward an increased prevalence of assay-defined B12D in the lithium group at 1 center, and no cases at the other center. 81 Additionally, a statistically significant direct association was reported between hair lithium and cobalt concentrations, suggesting a role of lithium in the transport and distribution of vitamin B 12 . 82 This interaction may contribute to the observed decrease in serum B 12 levels in patients on lithium therapy.
