The indirect path revealed that a lack of companion support increases (marginally significant) the likelihood of experiencing mistreatment during childbirth (β = 1.26, 95% CI -0.10 – 2.62; p = 0.064), which in turn raises the odds of postpartum anxiety and depression symptoms by 1.05 times (95% CI 1.02 - 1.08; p < 0.001) for each unit increase in mistreatment ( Fig 2A ).
