We have previously reported that there was no difference in expectations prior to the intervention, and no difference in endorsement of benefit between the different conditions following the intervention although there was a possible trend ( P = .06) for patients in the HT group to report greater reduction of treatment side-effects than patients in RT. 7 Nevertheless, we cannot totally rule out effects of expectations or non-specific factors on these results.
