Saponin synthesis is inversely regulated by GA 3 and ABA: long-term treatment with GA 3 (150 mg/L) upregulates the squalene epoxidase gene SE1 and the isopentenyl pyrophosphate isomerase gene IPPI , with an extremely significant positive correlation between the two, increasing saponin content by 45.6% compared to the control.
