Conversely, xylA mutant strains with the RBS and ATG (wtRBS) showed a decreasing trend in the amount of promoter-proximal mRNA as the length of the 5′-UTR was increased, even though this mRNA region is positioned identically relative to the TSS in all 5′-UTR mutants (Fig. 4B ).
