Ojajärvi et al 11 reported no significant association (meta-risk ratio = 0.70), 11 while Schwartz and Reis observed a marginally significant positive association (pooled standardised mortality ratio (SMR)=166). 12 Surprisingly, these studies, conducted in an era of less stringent workplace regulations and potentially higher exposure levels, did not reveal a consistent or elevated risk.
