According to the census of wintering waterbirds [ 124 ], in Italy, large flocks of these two avian species overwinter in Italian wetlands, and during the study period, the mallard was the most widespread and abundant anatid species, showing an increasing trend (242,022 vs. 72,383 individuals, respectively, in the 2006–2010 and 1991–1995 periods).
