One genetically informed, prospective investigation examining a population-based sample of adolescents found that although within-family effects only reached marginal significance, among female twin pairs discordant for tobacco exposure, early and regular tobacco use onset was associated with higher likelihood for any suicidal behaviors in early adulthood ( Korhonen et al., 2018 ).
