The positive Mucorales PCR results in the current study were highly significant as four culture-negative cases were found to be proven mucormycosis cases, and two other cases were deemed by clinicians to reflect probable mucormycosis based on clinical progression and repeatedly positive results, including plasma cell-free DNA PCR in one and sputum culture in another.
