In the temperature + month model, temperature was a highly significant predictor of weevil captures ( F 1,325 = 27.79, P < 0.0001), while month had no significant effect on weevil captures ( F 11,325 = 1.52, P = 0.1514), showing that temperature alone explained the seasonal pattern.
Distance (HaversineKM) from the putative infestation origin at the Sweetwater Reserve had a marginally significant negative effect on damage severity (Estimate = –0.1045, SE = 0.0525, P = 0.0467), suggesting that palms located at increasing distances from the Sweetwater Reserve were at slightly less risk of attack and were less likely to exhibit visual damage.
