Most recently, using a combination of bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, proteomic, flow cytometry, and histology, a study demonstrated a 7.8-fold higher proportion of contractile VSMCs in upper arm arteries, as well as a higher abundance of endothelial cells, pericytes, and macrophages, and an increasing trend of fibroblasts in upper arm veins.
