Additional highly significant independent variables from our study, reflected by high ORs in both the person-level and hospitalization-level models, were substance abuse (excluding alcohol), alcohol abuse, and the age groups 35 to 44 years and 25 to 34 years, as noted by many earlier studies [ 2 , 3 ].
