PREVENTION AND SURVEILLANCE OF HEPATITIS A Prevention and the need for future surveillance and effective vaccination strategies In the recent position paper on hepatitis A vaccination, WHO recommends that vaccination against HAV be introduced into national immunization schedules for individuals aged ≥ 12 months, based on: (1) An increasing trend over time of acute hepatitis A disease, including severe disease, among older children, adolescents or adults; (2) Changes in the endemicity of the region from high to intermediate; and (3) Cost-effectiveness.
