Morphologic analysis revealed degenerative cell alterations at all levels of the murine retina including retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), photoreceptor cells, bipolar cells and ganglion cells, which were accompanied by a highly significant increase of polyunsaturated VLCFA (VLC-PUFA) in phosphatidylcholines (PC).
