23 The EPIC Study among 409 885 men and women in 9 European countries, including United Kingdom, showed that substitutions of 100 kcal/day of red and processed meat with 100 kcal/day of yogurt (HR, 0.84 [95% CI, 0.76–0.92]) and cheese (HR, 0.85 [95% CI, 0.79–0.92]) were associated with significantly lower incidence of CHD and borderline significant with milk (HR, 0.95 [95% CI, 0.90–1.00]). 34 This study showed similar effect estimates, although separate analyses for red meat and processed meat were not performed.
