In addition, there is a highly significant 50% stricture recurrence rate poststent removal. 15 Stenting also carries nontrivial risks of adverse events such as airway constriction, tissue necrosis and fistula formation, or development of new strictures due to the stent. 16 , 17 Other devices, including plastic self-expandable stents and bio-absorbable stents, have had limited benefits with chronic strictures.
