Results Increased cellular presence in soft-tissue specimens Haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of soft-tissue specimens collected during surgery revealed a marked increase in cell count ( Figure 1 ): at the time of prosthesis removal, there was a statistical trend to elevated cell counts at 316.2 cells per mm 2 (SEM 49.81 (95% CI 212.0 to 420.5)) compared to the control group at 166.4 cells per mm 2 (SEM 30.22 (95% CI 102.9 to 229.9); p = 0.140, Kruskal-Wallis test).
