Notably, there is a highly significant positive trend (linear regression, r 2 adj = 0.51, p < 0.001) in beach area for southern California, whereas the trend in northern California is moderate to weak (r 2 adj = 0.11, p = 0.02) and there is no significant trend in central California (r 2 adj = −0.02; p = 0.56; Fig. 1 ).
