Although the chi-square test indicated a marginally significant difference in reports of seeing someone smoking at school (χ2 = 3.8, p = 0.049), the odds ratio suggested that boys and girls were equally likely to report such exposure (OR = 1.09, 95% CI [1.000–1.186]).
A significance threshold of p < 0.05 (two-tailed) was applied, with p < 0.01 considered highly significant.
Given that predictors were specified a priori based on theory and prior evidence, and that the analyses were exploratory in nature, no formal multiple-testing adjustment was applied; therefore, findings with marginal significance should be interpreted with caution.
