3 , 4 In China, previous studies reported prevalence of 5.30 and 9.03 per 10,000 male births for the periods 1987–2001 and 1996–2008, respectively, also noting an increasing trend during this time. 5 , 6 Given China's significant economic, environmental, and maternal and child health changes over the past two decades, and the wide variation observed in recent provincial and local hospital‐based studies, 7 , 8 there remains a need for contemporary national epidemiological data.
