Interestingly, in our study we found that analyses between WW SARS-CoV-2 detection and hospitalizations during subsequent weeks showed a progressive increase in correlation reaching a highly significant association for hospitalizations occurring 11 weeks after viral concentration measurements in WW (Spearman’s correlation coefficient = 0.59, p < 0.001); however we acknowledge that, given a low biological plausibility for this time lag, this finding may be spurious as the result of shared seasonality and multiple testing and, therefore, should not be interpreted as causally related.
