Using year fixed effects in Column (1), we find a positive and highly significant relationship between the observed withholding tax rate and the lagged average withholding tax rate from past tax treaties signed by other developing countries in relation to the same origin country of investment for three out of the four types of withholding tax rates: i.e. on portfolio dividends, interest and royalties.
