One study reported an increasing trend over the perinatal period relative to early pregnancy, with postpartum incidence slightly higher than during pregnancy. 19 Another study found that fathers had higher rates of psychiatric disorders post partum compared with nonfathers. 20 However, no studies, to our knowledge, have estimated the incidence of paternal psychiatric disorders before pregnancy or statistically compared it with the pregnancy or postpartum periods.
