In tea plants, scatter plot maps depicting cell fate determination and differentiation processes show that the expression level of the CsMYB4 gene gradually increases during the transition of epidermal cells to guard cells (states 1–2), whereas it shows a decreasing trend in the later stages of epidermal cells transitioning to trichome cells (states 1–3) ( Fig. 8C ).
