The effect with respect to the middle school or below group was significant on global cognitive decline only in CHARLS ( β = −0.273, 95% CI: −0.456 to −0.089), while the high school or above group showed a highly significant negative effect both in CHARLS ( β = −0.371, 95% CI: −0.695 to −0.047) and ELSA ( β = −0.537, 95% CI: −0.876 to −0.199) (Table S12 ).
