31 A decreasing trend in emphysema aquosum in decomposed bodies has been reported, particularly in cases of advanced decomposition. 1 Aortic hemolytic staining has been suggested as a drowning finding 5 6 ; however, it has been observed in bodies with decomposition, sepsis, and burns. 32 This implies that in a significantly decomposed drowning body, aortic hemolytic staining could be produced by the decomposition itself rather than by drowning.
