Stratification by smoking status revealed a higher risk of CDW among current smokers with at least six amalgam fillings (HR 1.89, 95% CI 1.09–3.27), while the association was weaker and of borderline significance among nonsmokers (HR 1.28, 95% CI 1.00–1.66) ( Supplementary Table 6 ).
