The out-of-plane O-atom flux is likely to be significant, as suggested by the data on the Al and FEP surfaces in Fig. 7 , and knowing the angular distribution of this flux will therefore be imperative to quantify the energy accommodation coefficient, even if the fractional energy transfer function can be deduced from in-plane scattering measurements (which appears to be the case from the data in Fig. 9 ).
