The number of people acquiring HIV in the Western Pacific region was the lowest compared to that in other regions but showed an increasing trend, in contrast to other regions where the prevalence of PLWH has decreased. 15 In these regions, different criteria for obesity definition have been suggested considering the higher vulnerability to metabolic diseases occurring at a lower body mass index (BMI), 16 suggesting an increased burden of HIV and obesity in this region in the future.
